10 Reasons Why Couponing Should Be Taught In Math Class

This is my first link-up with ohAmanda’s {Tuesday} Top 10!! I’ve been writing some top 10 lists every now and then and it was one of the tasks in the 31 Days to Build A Better Blog challenge I’ve been participating in so when I came across this link-up it felt like a GREAT fit for my blog!!

Top Ten {Tuesday}

Today’s {Tuesday} Top Ten has a Couponing Theme. Since one of my other “jobs” is a math tutor I’ve been thinking about how couponing and math are related. I wrote this top 10 list about my thoughts. As I was writing this I realized couponing can be  taught across all subjects! If there are other reasons that I didn’t mention please leave me a comment and let me know! I’d love to hear what you think!

1.     Students learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using real-life scenarios

2.     Students will learn about mark-ups, mark-downs, and percentages

3.     It will teach students how things double ($0.35 cent coupon will double to $0.70)
4.     Students will learn how a coupon and a sale will get you a better deal if you buy a smaller package vs. comparing price per ounce
5.     It will teach students how to compare and contrast different brands, prices, and what kind of coupons/sales are available
6.     Teaches students counting skills to count out the number of items you need per coupon
7.     Can be used as a project to include other subjects

8.     Students will use the information for the rest of their lives

9.     It teaches children about spending wisely and being frugal
10.  It will allow students to HELP parents with grocery shopping and spend quality time together!
